Upcoming Films at the Hayes Performing Arts Center in May

Compiled by Kathleen McFadden

Imagine being able to see the 1939 classic The Wizard of Oz on the big screen instead of on the TV. That treat is in store at the Hayes Center this month, along with two other films—a celebrated film noir from the ‘40s and a gripping WWII tale from the ‘90s. Admission to shows is $5 and tickets are available at the box office prior to the show. For info, call the Hayes Center at 828-295-9627.

Movie: Memphis Belle (1990)
Date: Monday, May 26
Times: 2:30 and 7:00 p.m.
Description: A U.S. bomber plane’s crew is ordered to hit a heavily defended German city. Capt. Dearborn (Matthew Modine) leads his men into battle while their commander and a public relations officer (John Lithgow) anxiously await the squad’s return. Amid friction between the captain and his co-pilot (Tate Donovan), a scandal erupts when it’s learned that a medical officer has been dishonest. The film is based on the real-life World War II plane’s final mission.
