You may be well adjusted to seeing cloggers click their heels to Appalachian mountain music, but this Friday, clogging meets music from around the globe.
High Country Dance Studio presents its year-end show, A Trip Around the World, this Friday, May 9, at 7:00 p.m. at the Hayes Performing Arts Center in Blowing Rock. About 100 of Vanessa Minton’s dance students will perform more than 20 numbers influenced by international music and dance styles.
“If you want to take a journey or a trip, we’re going to Mexico, Hawaii, down to Alabama and back to the Bible Belt,” Minton said. The recital will also feature hip-hop, jazz and Arabian styles of dance.
“It’ll be a little bit different—a few surprises in the clogging world,” Minton said.
Minton has been teaching dance for 25 years. The dancers at High Country Dance Studio—home of the High Country Cloggers—range in age from 4 to 66.
“It will be a great night full of electric energy—a night sure to entertain,” she said.
Tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for children. For more info about the performance, call the Hayes Center at 828-295-9627.
Registration for next year’s classes at High Country Dance Studio will be Monday and Tuesday, August 11 and 12. Interested adults should call 828-262-1181 and youth should call 828-733-1335.
