Boone Pride Hosts Pride 2008 June 13, 14 and 15

Boone Pride Inc, an area non-profit, officially announces Pride 2008, the High Country’s Fourth Annual GLBTQ (gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and queer) event planned for Friday, Saturday and Sunday, June 13, 14 and 15.

In keeping with the national Pride theme, “Live, Love, Be,” Boone Pride invites everyone to help fulfill a local mission to celebrate, unite and support the local growing GLBTQ community.

Friday begins with the first ever live music event from 8:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. on the patio at the Broyhill Inn & Conference Center with singer-songwriter, Crys Matthews; Atlanta based trio, the Melinda Kinsley Band; and local music legend Melissa Reaves.

Saturday’s events include workshops at the Watauga Public Library from noon until

4:00 p.m. and, as in years past, there will be a DJ dance with a cash bar from 9:00 p.m. until 1:00 a.m. on Saturday at the Broyhill.

Beginning at noon, Sunday’s event at Junaluska Park in Boone includes a family picnic and cookout hosted by High Country United Church of Christ, softball games, a “Really, Really Free Market” and plenty of spontaneous festive family fun.

Several area restaurants will provide evening discounts.

The proceeds from Boone Pride 2008, once again, will fund a scholarship for a deserving area student, as well as be used to maintain the organization’s on-going commitment to provide GLBTQ literature to public libraries for young adults.
The $10 tickets include all events and are available by clicking to www.boonepride.org, at Beanstalk in downtown Boone or at the door.
