Whether you’re planning to build a new house from the ground up or simply looking to make a few small improvements to an existing home, the Home & Remodeling Exposition is a good source for ideas.
The 14th annual show, a free event presented by the High Country Home Builders Association, takes place Friday and Saturday, May 16 and 17, at the Holmes Convocation Center in Boone. Hours are 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday and 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday.
About 95 exhibitors from across North Carolina and the Southeast will showcase their products and services, from sinks and countertops to natural building materials to energy-saving devices.
“The Homebuilders will actually have four booths promoting green [construction],” said Susan Miller, executive officer of the Homebuilders Association. In addition, Appalachian State University’s green model home will be on display.
Other booths will feature The Healthy Gourmet Cooking Show; vibrant hand-blown glass sinks by Fire Dancers Glass in Sugar Grove; natural building materials, including stone found in the High Country; landscaping; windows, doors and screens; waterfalls and fountains; mold removal; tools; spas and more.
Bandana’s Bar B Que and Chick-fil-A will provide food at the expo. Bring the kids along, too—they may not be interested in doors and windows, but they probably will enjoy the airwalk and other kids’ activities available.
In addition, a 1931 Model A Ford Roadster will be on display, and the Homebuilders Association will give away door prizes every hour.
The Home & Remodeling Exposition is an annual fundraiser for the Homebuilders Association, a chapter of more than 300 members of the home building industry in Watauga and Avery counties.
The association will use proceeds from this event to purchase new equipment and tools for the construction classes at Watauga and Avery high schools. Watauga High will receive $1,000 in new equipment and Avery will receive $500.
