The third annual Fashion Show and Luncheon hosted by Pretty in Pink and called Forever Blue will be held on Tuesday, June 3, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. at the Eseeola Lodge in Linville. The event partners Charles A. Cannon Memorial Hospital and Tanner Factory Store in their fight against cancer. Forever Blue Fashion Show and Luncheon is a community awareness campaign concerning all types of cancer. All proceeds from the fundraiser will go to the Avery County Cancer Resource Center.
“Tickets are going quickly,” said Megan Ellis, director of special events for the Appalachian Regional Healthcare Foundation. “We think this year will sell out in no time. We can hold 150 people for the event.”
Tanner Factory Stores are supplying the fashions and lunch starts at 12:00 p.m. with a pasta dish followed by dessert, compliments of Eseeola. Prior to the start of the fashion show, a 14 year-old girl—the daughter of one of the staff members at Cannon Memorial—will have her long hair cut short and the hair will be donated to the organization Locks of Love. She will then sit for a makeover during the remainder of the event. Models showing the fashions have all been touched in some way by cancer and some are survivors themselves. Dr. Phyllis Crane, a two-time cancer survivor, emcees the fundraiser. Guest speakers include Dr. David Yale, Ann Coleman, volunteer coordinator for the Avery County Cancer Resource Center, and Sheila Pait of the American Cancer Society. Yale is speaking about cancer prevention and awareness, Coleman has survivor stories to share and Pait will speak about the American Cancer Society.
“Five straw hats, handcrafted, will be auctioned off for the event,” said Sallie Woodring, director of volunteer services.
Each year, volunteers at Cannon Memorial Hospital choose a different cause and Woodring said that from now on, the fashion show and luncheon will be hosted by Pretty in Pink but, because of the changing fashions, the theme will also change accordingly every year.
Tickets cost $30 each.
