Summer school classes in Algebra I, Algebra I part II, Biology and in English I, II and III will be offered at Watauga High School beginning June 9. Class times for Biology and for English I, II, and III are 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Monday through Friday. Classes in Algebra I and Algebra I, part II run from 11:45 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Monday through Friday. End-of-Course tests for English I, Biology and Algebra will be administered on June 27.
Registration for summer school classes must be completed by June 3 and is available in the main office or the Student Services office. The classes are optional and free, but are only available to students who have previously taken the course and did not pass. A student may enroll in a maximum of two courses. Students and parents will receive confirmation of enrollment by 6:00 p.m. on June 3.
Lunch is not served and school bus transportation is not provided. Students attending both morning and afternoon classes are encouraged to bring lunch or a snack. Only one excused absence and one tardy are allowed.

In addition to the on campus summer school at the high school, students can take virtual, online computer courses through North Carolina Virtual Public School (NCVPS). Students complete these courses at home on a schedule developed by the course instructor. The schedule for NCVPS classes is not the same as the one for on campus classes.
The classes that will be offered through NCVPS include credit recovery courses in Geometry or Algebra II for students who have previously failed these courses. A limited number of additional credit acceleration courses will be available for students who want to take a course for the first time.
Students interested in taking any NCVPS summer courses should contact Jesse Stollings in the high school’s Distance Learning Lab as soon as possible to obtain course schedules and other details. Stollings can be reached by phone at 828- 264-2407, extension 217. The deadline for enrollment in NCVPS summer classes is May 30.
Summer school for students in grades 3 through 8 in the Watauga County Schools will be offered at Cove Creek and Hardin Park beginning June 9 and ending June 27. Summer school for third through eighth graders is available only to students required to attend by their principal.
Class hours for summer school are 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. daily. School bus transportation and regular breakfast and lunch service are available for these students.
Summer school for pupils in kindergarten through second grade is offered to students for whom principals believe it would be beneficial. Parents who would like information about summer school for these students should contact the principal of the school their child attends.
