Boone Wal-Mart Donates $1,500 to Rainbow Center – Children & Family Services

Tracy Stilwell, Boone Wal-Mart manager, presented Rainbow Center – Children & Family Services’ Vice President of Development Fred Robinette with a $1,500 grant to be used towards the center’s High Country Academy program.
“I would like to thank Tracy Stilwell for his continued support of the Rainbow Center. This grant will be used towards our annual charity golf tournament and funds will be specifically earmarked to benefit the High Country Academy,” said Robinette.
High Country Academy is a day treatment program that will help children ages 10 through 17 who are unable to attend public school because of behavioral problems. The program will teach appropriate behaviors, provide counseling, require parental involvement and offer basic academics.
“The golf tournament helps to raise funds for all of our programs. We requested that the Boone Wal-Mart support HCA because this program will serve children from Watauga County, as well as Ashe and Wilkes. I would also like to invite others in the community to support the Rainbow Center’s programs through our golf tournament,” continued Robinette. The center’s annual golf tournament is Saturday, June 7.
With more than 90 percent of its charitable giving targeted at local communities, cash donations through Wal-Mart stores, Inc. and the Wal-Mart and SAM’S CLUB Foundation exceeded a record $170 million in 2004. Of this total amount, $61 million was given through community grant programs to help support local organizations large and small.
Rainbow Center – Children & Family Services offers an array of human service programs serving northwestern North Carolina to include Residential Care, Family Reunification Counseling, Time Limited Family Reunification, High Country First in Families, Bridges Foster Care and High Country Academy.
