Thomas Comes to Tweetsie Friday

Story by Celeste von ManganDon’t miss Thomas the Tank Engine and his friends when he steams into Tweetsie Railroad Friday, May 30, through Sunday, June 8.

Children and adults are invited to enter the world of Thomas the Tank and his friends when the famous engine pulls into the High Country this weekend. From Friday, May 30, through Sunday, June 8, visitors to the Tweetsie Railroad Theme Park can participate in the event called Day Out With Thomas 2008: The Great Discovery.

At The Great Discovery—hosted by Tweetsie Railroad, presented by HIT Entertainment and sponsored by LEGO Group—participants can enjoy activities with Thomas the Tank Engine including a 25-minute ride with Thomas, as well as the opportunity to meet Controller of the Railway Sir Topham Hatt and to play at the Thomas & Friends Imagination Station featuring stamps, temporary tattoos, hands-on arts and craft activities, and coloring sheets. Also included in the Thomas program are storytelling, video viewing and live music.

Families will enjoy a unique, interactive experience at every station through entertaining activities that reflect the local flavor of each stop. The train ride with Thomas the Tank Engine will depart every 30 minutes, rain or shine, between 9:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Fridays and Sundays, and 8:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. on both Saturdays.

Many of the regular Tweetsie Railroad activities will be available on those days, including amusement park rides for all ages, live entertainment at the Tweetsie Palace Saloon, Professor Peppercorn’s Magical Show and interaction with mascot characters Hopper and Porter from the popular children’s show.

The story of Thomas the Tank Engine was created by a father for his son more than 60 years ago to teach young people timeless life lessons such as friendship, discovery and cooperation. Since those humble beginnings, Thomas has become a celebrity in more than 145 countries and is now making destinations on PBS KIDS and PBS KIDS Sprout, with downloadable episodes available through iTunes.

Tickets for the Day Out with Thomas event cost $30 for adults and $22 for children ages 3 through 12. Children age 2 and under are admitted free. Purchase tickets in advance by calling 828-264-9061 or click to www.tweetsie.com.
