Watauga High School Pioneer Athletics 2007-2008 Year in Review
The 2007-08 athletic year at Watauga High School produced many memorable moments, highlighted by the football team hosting Mount Tabor in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Western Regional championship game. This season is the second straight year the football program competed for the opportunity to play in the state championship game.
Watauga High School’s Athletic Department was recognized on the state level by being awarded the inaugural Exemplary School Award by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association. This award recognizes the top overall school in the state in terms of the “total program,” including academics, athletic success, scope of opportunities offered, sportsmanship, community interest and involvement, and facilities.
The Pioneers claimed six Northwestern 4-A Conference team championships during 2007-08, finishing first among conference schools for the prestigious Wachovia Cup trophy. In addition to the six conference titles Watauga teams won, four additional teams finished as runner-ups in conference title races.
