Appalachian Mountain Music Fest June 28

Wayne Henderson will perform at the Hunger and Health Coalition’s inaugural Appalachian Mountain Music Fest on Saturday, June 28.The Hunger and Health Coalition presents the inaugural Appalachian Mountain Music Fest on Saturday, June 28, featuring Wayne Henderson, the Jeff Little Band, Amantha Mill, BackPorch Bluegrass, Randy and Deborah Jean Sheets, and Roadside Fireworks.

The music fest begins at 10:00 a.m. at the Hunger and Health Coalition, located at 141 Health Center Drive in Boone just off Bamboo Road, and all proceeds will benefit the pharmacy assistance program.

A big tent will be in place, and the show will go on rain or shine. In addition to the music, the day will feature bar-b-q with all the fixings, food from Dan’l Boone Inn, Joe’s Great Sandwiches, hot dogs and hamburgers, Blimpie and other great foods.
The event is a great opportunity to help the Hunger and Health Coalition fill prescriptions for hundreds of local residents who are forced to choose between medication and necessities such as food, rent and utility payments. Compton Fortuna, Hunger and Health Coalition executive director, said that during April 2008, the Hunger and Health Coalition’s pharmacy dispensed 579 prescriptions at a savings of $103,196.56 to clients. Most of the medications are those used to manage chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, lung disease and high cholesterol.

Appalachian Mountain Music Fest sponsors include Cheap Joe’s Art Stuff, Artist Joan Sporn, Boone Drugs Inc., High Country Signs, Alta Vista Gallery, Adam’s Lumber & Hardware Inc., Bald Guy Brew, Beverly Guy Accounting Inc., Melanie’s, Tom Speed, Antiques on Howard, Reid’s Catering, Bank of Granite, Tweetsie Railroad, ECR Software and SOS Printing. If you or your business would like to help sponsor the event, call 828-262-1628.
