Shull’s Mill Documentary To Be Shown in Banner Elk June 13
On Friday, June 13, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., the East Tennessee & Western North Carolina (ET&WNC) Railroad Historical Society will view a video titled Timber Town: The Story of the Forgotten Town of Shull’s Mill, North Carolina during its annual convention at the Banner Elk Best Western Mountain Lodge, located on Highway 184. Billy Ralph Winkler Retires After 28 Years as Watauga High School Band Director
“I was sitting there, thinking to myself, what do I want to do for the rest of my life,” said Winkler. “I looked up at Otis Strother, the band director at the time, and said, ‘That’s it.’”

The Question of Digital Billboards
On Monday, June 23, at 6:00 p.m., the Watauga County Board of Commissioners will conduct a public hearing on the question of whether to impose a six-month moratorium on electronic signs in the county. The purpose of the moratorium would be to give the county Planning Commission the opportunity to review the existing sign ordinance and submit recommendations to the board. (Full Story)

Boone May Lose Four Historic Trees During Highway 421 Widening Project
