After a year in formation, the High Country Audubon Society chapter will hold its first annual meeting on Tuesday, July 15, at the LMC Elk Valley Preserve and Field Station on Puckett Road in Banner Elk.
Gathering in this bucolic setting will begin at 5:00 p.m. for sociability and some bird watching, so binoculars and a lawn chair are recommended.
Everyone is invited to bring a covered dish to share at a potluck supper that will be served at 6:15. Because the dinner is a zero waste occasion, guests also should bring their own dinner plates, drinking vessels, utensils and napkins. Beverages will be supplied.
In addition to the chapter’s annual report and election of officers, the meeting will feature the always-popular “conservation minute.” Board members will share their excitement about future activities, including Riverfest in August, hummingbird banding at Grandfather Mountain and hawk watching in September.
To reach the LMC Elk Valley Preserve and Field Station, drive 2.9 miles west of the traffic light in downtown Banner Elk. The light is at the intersection of Highways 105 and 194. Turn left on Puckett Road, drive 1/10 of a mile, cross the Elk River and take the first left into the parking lot.
