The Carolina Brass will perform an eclectic musical program at the second concert in the Music at St. John’s series on Sunday, July 6, at 5:00 p.m.The second concert of the 2008 summer music series at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Valle Crucis features the Carolina Brass, an energetic brass ensemble that is sweeping the country with stellar performances of beautiful music, ranging from classical to the hard-driving sound of big band.

The Carolina Brass will play at the 11:00 a.m. service at Holy Cross Episcopal Church in Valle Crucis on Sunday, July 6, and will then present the Music at St. John’s concert at 5:00 p.m. This is a great weekend for friends and family to attend church together and top off the day with a concert and picnic. The concert will be lively fun for the whole family.

According to Jacqueline Bartlett, artistic director of the Music at St. John’s series, the program will offer a wide variety of music, including arrangements and original compositions by noted composer Arthur Frackenpohl that the Carolina Brass commissioned. Some works to be performed include “Carolina in the Morning,” “Phantom of the Opera” (also arranged for Carolina Brass), selections from The Sound of Music, and classical selections by Bach, Gabrieli, Aaron Copland and more.

Established in 1997, the Carolina Brass combines virtuosity and good humor, making them a favorite with audiences of all ages. Carolina Brass has recorded for Mark Records, as well as the Summit Record label. Their compact disc recordings That’s A Plenty and Art Collection are available from major record stores worldwide, including Borders, Barnes and Noble and Amazon.com.

Trained at some of the country’s most prestigious schools, including the New England Conservatory of Music, Indiana University and the Eastman School of Music, Carolina Brass musicians have extensive national and international performing, recording and touring experience.
