Doc Performs August 9

Tickets for Doc and Richard Watson’s concert at Cook Memorial Park in Todd on Saturday, August 9, have just gone on sale. At $15 each—$17 for credit card sales—the tickets are a bargain. Sitting on the lawn by Elk Creek in beautiful downtown Todd, listening to Doc and his grandson with their friend Charles Welsh pick and sing and tell stories? Priceless.
Bargain or priceless, the concert is a fundraiser for Todd Community Preservation Organization’s James “Crow” Parsons Memorial Fund, started in 2006 to support the Saturday afternoon concerts.
According to a spokesperson for Todd’s nonprofit organization, a limited number of tickets are available, and they will go quickly. This is the sixth year that Doc Watson has come to play for his neighbors in Todd.
The concert will begin at 3:00 p.m., and will also feature two local bands: Backstreet and Phoenix Mountain. Food will be available. Attendees are advised to bring a chair or blanket and sunscreen.
Tickets are available at the usual outlets: Todd Mercantile, Todd General Store and RiverGirl Fishing Co. in Todd; Riverside General Store downriver; Boone Area Chamber of Commerce and Mast General Store in Boone; and the Ashe Visitor’s Center and Blue Moon Guitars in West Jefferson.
The concert is supported in part by a grant from the NC Rural Center’s NC STEP Program and HandMade in America, and by the generosity of local sponsors. Nevertheless, the Todd pickle jar will also be passed among the audience to garner additional contributions for the music fund and community projects.
