Café Chica for the Holidays
The High Country Women’s Fund has teamed up with Bald Guy Brew to raise money for women and children in need through a coffee sales fundraiser.
Bald Guy Brew imports the fair-trade, organic beans from El Café Femenino, a women’s cooperative plantation in Latin America. Profits from the wholesale beans enable these women to earn a living wage in a place where it is difficult for them to support themselves and their families. El Café Femenino is only sold to coffee roasters if a portion of the proceeds benefits local women and children.
Bald Guy Brew gives proceeds from Café Chica sales to the High Country Women’s Fund, and all monies raised assist the Women’s Fund in providing support to the following critical needs: transportation (auto repairs, insurance, tires, gasoline, car payments), caring for children (childcare, books, cribs, highchairs, diapers, safe-play areas), education (tuition, textbooks, computers, workshops, Internet service), housing (utilities, deposits, safe temporary housing, furniture, telephone, moving expenses), personal needs (eyeglasses, hygiene items, clothes for interviews, grocery store cards) and prevention (programs to empower women and girls).
Each pound of Café Chica retails for $13, and sample bags—great stocking stuffers—are available for $5. As the holidays roll around, many people scramble to find hostess gifts or a present for the office Secret Santa gift exchange. By purchasing Café Chica, you can help make a difference in the lives of women and children in Avery and Watauga counties, as well as provide a thoughtful, meaningful gift for friends and family.
You can purchase Café Chica three ways. Email info@highcountrywomensfund.org, call 828-264-4007 or stop by one of these retail locations: Bare Essentials, Black Bear Books, Erick’s Cheese & Wine, Kojay’s Coffee, Green Mother Goods and Peabody’s Wine and Beer.
