The Road to Four—ASU Hosts S.C. State in First-Round Playoff Game Saturday
Say goodbye to the folks, pack as many Thanksgiving leftovers as possible into your car and get back to Boone this Saturday—you’ve got a football game to watch. No. 2-seeded ASU will host the South Carolina State Bulldogs at 12:00 p.m. Saturday in a first-round playoff game at Kidd Brewer Stadium.

Boone’s Proposed Water Intake Environmental Assessment Finds Special Concern Mussels
Earlier this month, Boone voters overwhelmingly approved a $25 million bond referendum for a new water intake facility on the South Fork of the New River in the Brownwood area near Todd. Town staff has now turned the focus to an environmental assessment currently underway.
According to Town Manager Greg Young, engineering firm WK Dickson mailed a “scoping” letter to the 18 agencies and departments who will review the assessment, including U.S. Fish & Wildlife, in mid-October. The document outlines the scope of the project—hence the term “scoping” letter—and provides a number of specific project parameters. Read More »

Holidays at the Hayes
A world premiere of a new Christmas play, storytelling, cabaret and beautiful mountain music combine for a busy December at the Hayes Performing Arts Center in Blowing Rock.
First up is the world premiere of Robert Inman’s new play called A High Country Christmas Carol. The Blowing Rock Stage Company brings Dickens’ classic holiday tale to the stage with a Blue Ridge Mountain twist from Friday, December 5, through Sunday, December 14. Read More »

A Jones House Centennial Christmas
A yearlong celebration 100 years in the making will come to a close at the end of December, but not before treating the community to a festive dose of holiday cheer.
The Jones House Community Center, located in the heart of downtown Boone, is celebrating its 100th birthday in 2008, and the winter part of the celebration includes the annual unveiling of the Christmas at the Jones House decorations and the annual lighting of the ASU Solar Christmas Tree.
