Appalachian Health System Launches New Women’s Health Center

Dr. Beverly Womack, a board-certified physician in obstetrics and gynecology, will begin seeing patients in February at the Harmony, the Center for Women’s Health and Vitality, at 169 Doctors Drive. Appointment scheduling has already begun.

Appalachian Regional Medical Associates introduces Dr. Beverly Womack and Harmony, the Center for Women’s Health and Vitality.

Harmony offers a broad array of services to make life better for women in the High Country. In addition to obstetrical and gynecological care, Harmony offers prenatal exercise classes, childbirth classes, car seat classes and sibling classes. Patients can also learn about proper nutrition, talk with counselors and receive discounts on massage and other pampering services.

“Appalachian Regional Healthcare System makes life better by taking care of the whole woman,” said Gillian Baker, VP of Marketing and Business Development for Appalachian Regional Healthcare System. “Harmony is an exciting new approach to caring for women in the High Country, one that we have not seen before in this area. By offering a full array of services for women of all ages, Harmony can meet the needs of the woman throughout her life cycle.”

In 2006, Appalachian Regional Healthcare System embarked on a journey to meet the needs of women in the High Country by becoming part of the Spirit of Women hospital network. Spirit of Women is a national network consisting of 65 hospital systems aiming to advance the cause of women’s health. ARHS chose to become a member of the Spirit of Women to better serve the women and their families in the High Country and to be able to offer a sound women’s health programming package. Harmony Center for Women’s Health and Vitality is one more step in the journey.

Womack, who is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology, has practiced medicine for the past 11 years. While completing her undergraduate training at the University of Georgia and medical training at the Medical College of Georgia, Womack received numerous accolades and honors regarding her education and clinical work.

Womack and her family relocated to Boone from Americus, Ga. where she last practiced at Americus Gynecology and Obstetrics and served as the chief of obstetrics and chief of surgery at Sumter Regional Hospital.

Womack will begin seeing patients in February 2009, but patient appointment scheduling has already begun. Physician referrals and self-referrals are welcome. Harmony, the Center for Women’s Health and Vitality, is located at 169 Doctors Drive.
