Winter Paws Pet Show January 25
A new Winterfest event brings our furry friends into the fold this year. The Winter Paws Pet Show, a benefit for the Watauga Humane Society, will take place on Sunday, January 25, at the American Legion Hall on Wallingford Street in downtown Blowing Rock.
Beginning at 2:00 p.m., pet owners will showcase their dogs and hope for an award in one of 14 categories. The canines will compete for prizes for cutest, largest, smallest, best trick, best dressed, most hair, least hair, pet/owner look-alike, youngest, oldest, most energetic, most mellow, longest tongue and biggest ears.
“When Winterfest began, one of the more popular events was the sled dog exhibition. The success of the event caused it to outgrow the venue, and we could not find another suitable place for them,” said Carol Horne, a Winterfest volunteer. “This, in a way, is to help fill that gap. People are proud of their dogs and like to see other dogs, and this seemed a natural.”
Entry fees are $10 per dog for one category and $1 for each additional category. All dogs must be leashed and have proof of recent rabies shots. Animals that are prone to biting must be muzzled. To enter your dog, click to www.BlowingRockWinterfest.com and select the Winter Paws Pet Show from the left menu. Download the entry form, fill it out and fax it to 828-295-4310 or email it to carolhorne@mountain-view-realty.com.
