Become Part of the Blue Ridge Parkway 75th Anniversary
Meeting in Blowing Rock January 29
Make plans now to participate in one of the planning meetings to begin a dialogue with community organizations and leaders regarding the Blue Ridge Parkway’s 75th Anniversary in 2010.
The 75th Anniversary of the Parkway is a special opportunity to raise public awareness locally and across the country of the extraordinary contributions made by and equally extraordinary needs currently faced by the Blue Ridge Parkway. The Parkway’s 50th anniversary celebration in 1985 spurred a multi-year increase in media coverage of the area and brought millions of new visitors to the Parkway region, resulting in impressive economic impacts.
Blue Ridge Parkway 75, Inc., the nonprofit managing this anniversary project, is hard at work planning numerous initiatives that will have positive, long-term impacts across the region. To fully realize the potential of this anniversary, though, adjacent and nearby communities need to get involved.
An informational meeting will take place on Thursday, January 29, at the Mariam & Robert Hayes Performing Arts Center in Blowing Rock, 152 Jamie Fort Road. The Blowing Rock Visitor Center, the Blowing Rock TDA and NC High Country Host are hosting the event.
The meeting will begin with a half-hour, informal networking session at 1:30 p.m. with an agenda running from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Agenda items will include the following:
• An overview of the 75th Anniversary project goals, mission, organizational structure and planning efforts to date
• A Blue Ridge Parkway update from the National Park Service
• Discussion of the process for community events to be endorsed as part of the Official 75th Anniversary Calendar of Events and deadlines associated with this process
• 75th Anniversary logo and usage
• 75th Merchandising Program including community banners, etc.
• Communications Plan throughout 2009-2010
