High Country Cotillion Now Registering for Spring Session

Thursday Afternoon Sessions Begin February 12

The High Country’s innovative and entertaining social education program is now registering students for its Spring 2009 Session. Announcing the lineup of new lessons and events for youth in grades 5 to 8, High Country Cotillion’s Director Sharon Carlton said, “We have events as diverse as a Monopoly Mania, the Snowman Swing Sockhop and a March Madness Hoopla celebration of basketball planned as settings to coach students in social skills that will prepare them to make a positive difference in this world.”

During a series of seven themed parties at the Broyhill Inn, High Country Cotillion uses simple dance instruction to model young lady and young gentleman behavior, and coaches students in communication skills and etiquette, preparing them to be poised and respectful young adults. Social skills are introduced through games, role playing, skits and interactive discussion. Students learn classic and contemporary dances that allow them to be confident at school functions, weddings and formal dances.

“Our terrific Cotillion leaders Laura, Thomas, Mary Grace, Carmela and Anderson coach students to use the introduction techniques, telephone and dining etiquette, common courtesies and other social skills that are helping them succeed. The real-life stories they share from their own lives as ASU (and WHS) students provide valid incentive for our youth,” Carlton said. “We have terrific guests scheduled to provide motivation and insight for students as well.”

Cotillion provides tools for transitioning gracefully from childhood to the teen years and into adulthood. “From our past experiences in the corporate world, I understand the necessity of manners for succeeding in life. Our Cotillion program is designed to encourage students to practice social courtesies that will open the doors for them to build respectful relationships and allow them to live extraordinary lives,” Carlton said. “Good manners are a prerequisite for good leadership. Whether your children eventually make their homes here or live elsewhere in the world, they will need the skills and the self-esteem to be successful family, business and community leaders.”

Spring Session will meet on Thursday afternoons beginning February 12 and ending Saturday, April 25. To learn more about High Country Cotillion’s Spring program and to register, call Sharon Carlton at 828-297-3133, email sacarlton@skybest.com or click to www.highcountrycotillion.com.
