ASU Chamber Orchestra at Ashe Civic Center February 7
The ASU Chamber Orchestra, directed by James Allen Anderson, will perform at the Ashe Civic Center in West Jefferson on Saturday, February 7, at 7:30 p.m.
The Appalachian State University Chamber Orchestra will perform on the stage at the Ashe Civic Center in West Jefferson on Saturday, February 7, at 7:30 p.m. The repertoire will include the overture to Le Corsaire, Op. 21 by composer Hector Berlioz and Symphony No. 3 in E-flat major, Op.55, Eroica by Beethoven.
Under the direction of James Allen Anderson, the Appalachian Chamber Orchestra is the Hayes School of Music’s student and faculty orchestra. Modeled on a professional system of four to five blocked rehearsals, the chamber orchestra provides students with intensive ensemble experience. Faculty members hold the principal posts and model for the students the responsibilities expected of these positions.
Anderson is the director of orchestral activities at the Hayes School of Music. He received his formal training as conductor and pianist at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. Anderson received the 2005 Mariam Cannon Hayes School of Music Outstanding Teaching Award.
Anderson is committed to a variety of outreach projects and is a frequent adjudicator and clinician on both the state and regional levels. He is in demand as a guest conductor and has served as music director of the Butte Symphony Association and director of orchestral activities at the University of Montana.
This concert event is supported by the New River Friends of the Symphony, whose mission is to bring symphony orchestras to Ashe County. NRFOS is a fundraising committee of the Ashe County Arts Council and has been instrumental in bringing the North Carolina Symphony, Kiev Symphony Orchestra and the Western Piedmont Symphony to Ashe County.
