Cold Mountain Review Releases Fall 2008 Issue
Cold Mountain Review, a literary journal housed in the Department of English at Appalachian State University, has released its fall 2008 issue.
The current issue of CMR includes poems by Ricardo Pau-Llosa, Eugene Gloria, Susan Rich, Frederick Smock, Bruce Snider and other contributors. The issue also presents a short story by Drue Heinz Literature Prize-winning author John Blair and a gripping piece of creative nonfiction by Glen Retief that touches on Al Qaeda, activism and Interpol while exploring the nuances of an amorous relationship.
The fall issue also includes work from or inspired by India, South Africa, Japan and France. The diverse contents are personal works that explore universal themes.
The CMR cover features a color photograph by Boone photographer Richard Rapfogel. The former psychologist has had winning images in the Banff International Photo Competition, the Photo Review International Photography Competition, the Appalachian Mountain Photography Competition and the ASiA Competition. His work has also been represented in the Photographer’s Forum Best of Photography Annual and numerous other publications.
The issue also includes the photo essay “Born Behind Bars.” This documentary work by Caroline Bennett, an Ecuador-based photographer, illuminates the lives of women who are raising their children within the high-security confines of Santa Martha Acatitla prison in Mexico.
CMR staff members are editor-in-chief Leigh Ann Henion, managing editor Betty Conway, and assistant editors Ian Burkett and Rachel Goldfarb.
Since its first issue more 35 years ago, CMR has published some of the most accomplished writers in the nation, among them Robert Morgan, Sydney Lea, Lyn Lifshin, Houston Baker, Fred Chappell, R. T. Smith and Susan Ludvigson.
