Foundation Facilitates Improvements at Blowing Rock Hospital

Karyn Kennedy Herterich/The Ethel & W. George Kennedy Family Foundation gave a grant in honor of Chair Lynn Lawrence to be used to improve an area of her choice at Blowing Rock Hospital. Lawrence chose to rehabilitate the chapel, and renovations included a stained glass piece, fresh paint, new carpet and an upgraded sound system.

The Appalachian Regional Healthcare Foundation’s hard work paid off in the form of new patient beds, food service trays and a “spruce up” for the chapel at Blowing Rock Hospital.

Twenty-one new patient beds were delivered to Blowing Rock Hospital recently, thanks to the Blowing Rock Fashion Show Committee and the Appalachian Regional Healthcare Foundation (ARHF). Proceeds from the 31st Annual Blowing Rock Hospital Fashion Show and Luncheon made the purchase possible.

“Each bed includes a tray table and nightstand for patient use,” stated Lynn Lawrence, 2008 Fashion Show Committee Chair. “We are thrilled to help provide the latest technology and improve the lives of patients at the hospital.”

Plans are underway for the 2009 Fashion Show and Luncheon that will raise funds to purchase the remaining beds needed for Blowing Rock Hospital.

In addition, Karyn Kennedy Herterich/The Ethel & W. George Kennedy Family Foundation gave a grant in honor of Chair Lynn Lawrence to be used to improve an area of her choice at Blowing Rock Hospital. Lawrence chose to rehabilitate the chapel. Original Creations Stained Glass Studio and Teresa Pyatte created a stained glass piece. The chapel also received a fresh coat of paint and Storie’s Carpet donated new carpet. Plans are underway to upgrade the sound system to complete the renovation. The new look has revitalized the spirits of patients, staff and visitors.

Furthermore, ARHF, the Blowing Rock Community Foundation and the Budget Box volunteers came together to purchase a new nutrition tray service system for the hospital.

In September 2008, the Appalachian Regional Healthcare Foundation applied for and received a grant through the Blowing Rock Community Foundation for the tray service system. The grant, along with a donation from the Budget Box, made the tray service system acquisition possible.

“We appreciate our own Appalachian Regional Healthcare Foundation, the Blowing Rock Community Foundation and the Budget Box volunteers for helping make life better for our patients,” said Tim Ford, CEO of Blowing Rock Hospital. “A special thank you to the Budget Box volunteers for their years of dedication and support of our residents and patients.”

The Appalachian Regional Healthcare Foundation is extremely grateful to everyone who assisted with these projects. The generous gifts of foundation donors bring caring and hope into the lives of thousands of families each year in the High Country.
