Rodney Reynerson and Bair Shagdaron February 17
Pianists Rodney Reynerson and Bair Shagdaron will present a recital Tuesday, February 17, at 8:00 p.m. in Rosen Concert Hall. Admission is free.
A piano duo recital features compositions written for two pianos. Reynerson and Shagdaron are members of the piano faculty in Appalachian’s Hayes School of Music.
“All of the compositions on the program were written originally for the two piano medium or were orchestrated versions that were arranged by the composer for two pianos,” said Reynerson.
The pianists will perform Johannes Brahms’ “Variations on a Theme by Haydn, Op. 56b;” Francis Poulenc’s “L’embarquement pour Cythère,” “Élégie” and “Capriccio d’après La Bal masque;” Sergei Rachmaninoff’s “Symphonic Dance No. 1, Op. 45;” and Maurice Ravel’s “La Valse.”
“We have picked a very difficult program that’s challenging, but it’s fun,” Reynerson said. “The music written for two pianos has lot of audience appeal as it tends to be very engaging and have a spectacular sound.”
Reynerson said the Brahms composition was considered a staple of the repertoire for four hand piano and that the Ravel composition was one of his great works and a virtuoso piece whether it’s performed on two pianos or by orchestra.
