Sixth Annual Volunteer Fest Saturday
Nonprofits Can Register By Friday
The Volunteer Resource Center will host the sixth annual Volunteer Fest on Saturday, February 14, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Boone Mall. The informational event is free and open to the public.
Volunteer Fest offers local nonprofit agencies the opportunity to showcase their organizations to the general public, recruit volunteers and network with other nonprofit organizations. Nonprofit organizations can register for the event for free by 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 13.
Janet Pepin, executive director of the Volunteer Resource Center said about 18 organizations have registered for the event so far but that several nonprofits always register at the last minute. At least three or four of the registered organizations are new to the event this year. Last year’s event featured 32 area organizations.
“Nonprofits are looking for more ways to get their message out than ever before,” Pepin said.
Once again, attendees who visit at least 10 nonprofit booths are eligible for a drawing for door prizes. And the Watauga Humane Society will be present along with animals to entertain the kids.
This will be the final Volunteer Fest sponsored by the Volunteer Resource Center. After the county did not allocate funding for the organization in this fiscal year’s budget, the board of directors decided to dissolve the organization as of June 30, 2009, Pepin said.
“We’re hoping another group will host [Volunteer Fest] as part of continuing this annual event,” she said.
