Cabin Fever Theatre at Hayes Center March 6 and 7
And now for something completely different … well, almost. The Blowing Rock Stage Company, the resident professional theatre company of the Hayes Performing Arts Center, is bringing back Cabin Fever Theatre 2 after last year’s sold-out performance. Cabin Fever Theatre 2, which consists of four short plays, will be held Friday and Saturday, March 6 and 7, at 7:30 p.m., staged in the second-floor multi-purpose room, the Ebert Rehearsal Hall, at the Hayes Center.
“Since moving into the Hayes Center, we’ve been trying to establish a program that would let us create a true ‘second stage’ venue for small-scale productions here at the Hayes Center,” said Kenneth Kay, producing artistic director of BRSC. “Our multi-purpose room is the perfect space to do the kind of projects we want for Cabin Fever Theatre 2.”
The room will be arranged cabaret-style with tables and chairs so that audience members can enjoy food and beverages at their tables while they watch they show.
“We wanted a very relaxed, informal atmosphere for Cabin Fever Theatre 2,” Kay said. “But our main purpose is just to get audience members out of their house on a chilly winter night and go see a play or two with friends and have some fun.”
The lineup for this edition of Cabin Fever Theatre 2 consists of four short plays by accomplished playwrights: My Name Is Leslie by Larry Blamire; Flop Cop by Laura Cunningham; Knots by Lisa Soland; and And Nothing But… by BRSC veteran actor Viki Boyle (The Immigrant, Peter Pan, The Christmas Bus).
My Name Is Leslie—What happens when you combine restaurant patrons who wait seven hours to be served, a waitress who hasn’t taken an order in four years and the movie Sands of Iwo Jima? In this play, the determined patrons devise a plan and, come hell or high water, they’ll get their order taken or die trying. Directed by Gary Smith.
And Nothing But…—As part of a jury in a major case against a career criminal, Ann and Ruth have been sequestered in a Manhattan hotel room. Ann is preventing a conviction. Can Ruth convince her to change her mind? Directed by Robert Miller Jr.
Flop Cop—A shoot-out at the Hayes Performing Arts Center? Witness the dramatic retelling of Officer Mike Murphy’s account of a playwright at the end of his rope. Directed by Chris Wright.
Knots—A boy, his car, and those three deadly words. Flash back with Karen as she questions, “Is it better to have lied in love or to knot have loved at all?” Directed by Chris Wright.
