Two Rivers Community School Arts Benefit at Dragonfly March 6

Two Rivers Community School is excited to host AURA, an evening of performing arts at the Dragonfly Theater, on Friday, March 6. AURA stands for Artists United Reaching out for Academics, and the event will showcase local performing artists, musicians and dancers.
Doors open at 7:00 p.m. with the music of Rhythm’s Children, a soulful Zen rock band. Act I begins at 8:00 p.m. and showcases Prophet Margin, a spoken word, dance and music compilation featuring local artists Mar Startari-Stegall, Chris Winsor, Jared McQueen, Holly Roark and Kristen Kissik. Startari’s talents range from poetry to music to art featured in the past at the Nth Gallery. Roark and Kissik are both accomplished dance and expressive artists. Roark is a faculty member of ASU’s dance department and an avid naturalist. Kissik’s skills range from live dramatic performance to small dance classes of all ages, available at Neighborhood Yoga and The Children’s Playhouse.
The evening continues with two duets, the first by Adrian Daw and Blue Murrow, the second by Rhonda Lorence and Connie Woolard. Adrian Daw, physics professor at ASU, will showcase his original guitar talents with flutist Blue Murrow. Rhonda Lorence, well known for her Suzuki violin lessons through ASU’s Community Music School, will perform a duet of Celtic rhythms with dulcimer player Connie Woolard.
Act II features World Wide, a world beat experience with local musician Jeff Dickens, African dancer and healer Nia Dickens and trombone player Rudy. World Wide highlights the talents of ASU’s faculty drummer Sean Roberts. The group is joined by Justin Butler and Ben of Hope Massive. Butler teaches classical guitar at ASU’s Community Music School.
Available in a silent auction are two original Irmalys and a hand-blown glass bowl by local artisan Glenn Randle.
Tickets are $10 at the door. All proceeds will benefit arts programming at Two Rivers Community School. TRCS is an as Expeditionary Learning Outward Bound public school in Boone.
