Watauga Storm Basketball Finishes 2nd in Tournament
Free Program Takes Place Every Monday and Friday
The Watauga Storm U-12 boys’ travel basketball team finished 2nd last weekend in the Smoky Mountain Rim-Rocker Tournament. The Storm lost their first game in Pool Play to Southside from Sevierville, Tenn., 46-32. The Storm were led by Zeb Speir with 10 points, followed by Hunter Isaacs with 8 points. The Storm also lost their 2nd pool play game to the Avery County Blizzard 33-22. Speir once again led the Storm with 8 points, followed by Kory Phillips and T.J. Poulos with 4 points each.
The 3rd-seeded Storm faced the No. 2 seed Wallace Warriors from Bristol, Va., and defeated them 36-28. Harrison Cobb and Speir led the Storm with 8 points, Andy Gilliam had 7 points and Matthew Lambert and Poulos chipped in 4 points apiece. In the semi-finals, the Storm faced a rematch with the Avery Blizzard and this time prevailed 29-21. Lambert led the Storm with 8 points, Isaacs and Speir pitched in with 6 points apiece, Cobb with 4 points and Hunter Shore and Poulos with 2 points each.
In the finals, the Storm were defeated by the Colonial Height Chargers from Kingsport, Tenn., 30-19. Poulos led the Storm with 6 points, Isaacs pitched in 3 points, and Speir, Shore, Kenan Ozdemir and Cobb pitched in with 2 points apiece.
The Storm return to action in Mitchell County Friday, February 27, through Sunday, March 1. The Storm are coached by Stephen Poulos and Lindsey Cobb.
