ASU Vocal Quintet Quintessential! Performs Thursday in Blowing Rock

Quintessential!, the graduate vocal quintet in Appalachian State University’s Hayes School of Music, will perform Thursday, March 5, at 7:30 p.m. at the Hayes Performing Arts Center in Blowing Rock. Admission is $5.
This is the quintet’s first public concert since the group formed in August 2008. The group also will perform at the Mid-Atlantic Regional National Association of Teachers of Singing spring conference in April.
The concert includes solos, duets, trios, quartets and a quintet. Quintessential! will perform works by Haydn, Brahms, Schumann, Mendelssohn, Strauss, Puccini and Mozart.
Members of the quintet are Lauren Hayworth and Tara Nixon, both sopranos; Ashley Hollar, mezzo-soprano; Tyler Young, tenor; and Harrison Bumgardner, baritone.
Pianists Aaron Ames and Susan Slingland will accompany the singers.
Each of the quintet members has received a graduate assistantship and the opportunity to perform extensively on and off campus, both within the community and in the surrounding region. Weekly vocal and dramatic coaching is included in their program of study, as well as a concentration on languages and professional career development.
