David Holt & The Lightning Bolts Play Ashe Civic Center March 20

Multi-instrumentalist, folklorist and storyteller David Holt will take the stage at the Ashe Civic Center along with his band, The Lightning Bolts, on Friday, March 20. Tickets are $12 for adults and $5 for students.

Whether he’s playing the banjo with his friend Doc, working out a funky rhythm on a washboard or laying down some slippery slide work on his resonator guitar with his band The Lightning Bolts, David Holt is a tireless entertainer and educator that knows more about American folk music than just about anyone in the country.

On Friday, March 20, David Holt and The Lightning Bolts will deliver old-time music with a new-time jolt at 7:30 p.m. at the Ashe Civic Center in West Jefferson. The four time Grammy award winner will be joined by a stellar cast of musicians including Laura Boosinger, Josh Goforth, David Cohen and Zeb Holt. Along with Holt, the band will bring to life the joy and spirit of mountain music.

For more than three decades, Holt’s passion for traditional music and culture has fueled a successful performing and recording career. The lively, entertaining concert sizzles with a wide diversity of material, styles and instruments – songs learned directly from musical greats like Doc Watson, Tommy Jarrell, Grandpa Jones, Roy Acuff and the oldest person in the world, 123-year-old Susie Brunson.

Holt is also well known for his television and radio series. He is host of public television's Folkways, a North Carolina program that takes the viewer through the Southern Mountains visiting traditional craftsmen and musicians. He served as host of The Nashville Network's Fire on the Mountain, Celebration Express and American Music Shop. He has been a frequent guest on Hee Haw, Nashville Now and The Grand Ole Opry. David can also be seen as a musician in the popular film, O Brother Where Art Thou.

Holt hosts Riverwalk: Classic Jazz From The Landing for Public Radio International. Riverwalk, in its 13th year, is broadcast nationally from San Antonio, Texas, and combines stories of the jazz greats told by Holt with the traditional jazz music of the Jim Cullum Jazz Band and guests including Lionel Hampton and Benny Carter.

Funding for the concert is made possible by an Arts and Audiences Grant from the North Carolina Arts Council, a state agency, the National Endowment for the Arts, and corporate sponsorship from AF Financial Group.

Tickets for the David Holt and The Lightning Bolts Concert are $12 for adults and $5 for students. Seating is reserved and available in advance at the Ashe Arts Center or by calling 336-846-2787.
