Hayes School of Music This Week

After a weeklong break, Hayes School of Music concerts resume with a concert by jazz pianist and former ASU student Frank Kimbrough on Monday, March 16.
Unless otherwise indicated, concerts take place in the Broyhill Music Center on the ASU campus. For more information about any of these performances, call 828-262-3020.
Jazz Pianist Frank Kimbrough March 16
Jazz pianist Frank Kimbrough performs Monday, March 16, at 8:00 p.m. in Rosen Concert Hall. Admission is free. Bass player Ron Brendle and drummer Al Sergel will join Kimbrough for the concert. The program will feature original compositions by Kimbrough.
A North Carolina native, Kimbrough attended ASU from 1975 to 1978. A piano performance major, Kimbrough left college with a bass player he met in school and began performing at a popular music venue in Chapel Hill. He later moved to New York, where he has been active on New York’s jazz scene for more than 25 years.
Phi Mu Alpha Pledge Recital March 18
Members of the Phi Mu Alpha Pledge Class will perform in the Recital Hall on Wednesday, March 18, at 8:00 p.m. Admission is free.
Phi Mu Alpha is a national music fraternity founded in 1898 at the New England Conservatory of Music. The fraternity is the largest music fraternity in the world. The Appalachian chapter was founded in 1967.
Low Brass Trio March 19
A trio of low brass instruments will perform in the Recital Hall on Thursday, March 19, at 6:00 p.m. Admission is free.
Saxophonist Matthew James March 19
Saxophonist Matthew James performs a guest recital in Rosen Concert Hall on Thursday, March 19, at 8:00 p.m. Admission is free.
