For the first time ever, Avery County agencies will partner with Avery YO! (Youth Opportunities) to host a local resource fair, yard sale and community celebration on Saturday, March 21, at Old Cranberry High School in Elk Park.
From 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., residents of all ages can gather information about resources available to them, support local vendors, listen to live entertainment and purchase items at a yard sale hosted by W.A.M.Y. Community Action. Staff and students within the Avery YO! program will sell hotdogs, hot chocolate and baked goods. In addition, the first 300 local youth to arrive will receive a free goody bag.
Everyone in the community is invited and encouraged to attend.
Just a few of the participating agencies include W.A.M.Y. Community Action, the Avery County Cooperative Extension, the Avery County Sheriff’s Office, Hospice, Western Youth Network, Parent to Parent, ACADA, Grandfather Home for Children Community Services and the Avery County YMCA. The Cranberrian Corporation, which is providing both space and support, will also have an informational booth set up.
Other activities include health and wellness checks, survivor games, a cakewalk, face painting and identification kits from the Avery County Sheriff’s Department.
Currently, the Avery County Community Collaboration is seeking local agencies that would like to set up an informational display and/or have a hands-on activity at the fair. If you would like your agency to be a part of the day, call Jenna Crawley at 828-737-0057.
Any local vendors interested in selling merchandise should contact Catherine Bare at 828-733-0156 or 828-265-8483. Also, W.A.M.Y. Community Action is in need of yard sale donations. Call Jenna Crawley at 828-737-0057 if you have items you would like to donate.
