Feature Photo—Speed Limit Changes on Highway 105 Between Boone and Banner Elk
Motorists this week on Highway 105 between Boone and Banner Elk will notice changes to the speed limit. According to Dean Ledbetter, traffic engineer with the N.C. Department of Transportation’s 11th Highway Division, the speed limit is now 45 mph on Highway 105 from the Boone Town Limits to one-quarter of a mile past the turnoff to Baird’s Creek Road. The speed limit returns to 55 mph from one-quarter of a mile south of Baird’s Creek Road to the second Old Shull’s Mill Road turnoff. From the Old Shull’s Mill Road turnoff to Foscoe, the speed limit is now 45 mph. The speed limit within Foscoe is still 35 mph. From the end of Foscoe to the entrance to Seven Devils, the speed limit is now 45 mph, as opposed to the former 50 mph speed limit. After Seven Devils to the Avery County line, the speed limit is still 55 mph. Ledbetter said the signage denoting the changes was installed this week. Photo by Ken Ketchie
