Ocean Explorer Dana Yoerger Lectures at ASU March 26
Dr. Dana Yoerger will present the lecture Exploring the Deep Sea with Robots on Thursday, March 26, at 4:00 p.m. at ASU. The program will be held in Plemmons Student Union’s Linville Falls Room. The public is invited.
Yoerger is an associate scientist at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI), where he designs and implements robotic control systems for telerobotic and autonomous underwater vehicles.
His talk will describe the 1985 Titanic discovery cruise, archaeological surveys of ancient shipwrecks, a forensic investigation of a modern shipwreck and scientific surveys of sites along the mid-ocean ridge.
Yoerger was a member of the team that developed the telerobotic control system for the Jason ROV and has served as Jason navigator on many cruises. He has been to the deep seafloor six times in DSV Alvin.
ASU’s Department of Biology and Department of Geology, University College External Scholars Grant Program and the National Science Foundation’s Ridge 2000 Program sponsor the talk.
