4th Annual Celebrity Serve Set for April 7

Event Will Benefit Hospitality House’s Giving Hope a Hand Campaign

On Tuesday, April 7, make a reservation, grab your date or family and be waited on by the stars as two-dozen High Country eateries serve up food, fun and charity for Celebrity Serve 2009. The annual event, which raised more than $50,000 last year, will benefit the Hospitality House’s Giving Hope a Hand Combined Campaign for building and operating a new homeless shelter for the High Country.

Each participating restaurant will donate 10 percent of the day’s proceeds and celebrity servers will donate their tips to the cause.

From ASU star athletes and familiar TV personalities, to local business owners, public officials, doctors, writers and more, the High Country’s most recognizable names and faces will be at your service. Whether you’re looking for freshly prepared sushi or just a good sandwich, it won’t be tough to find a restaurant to suit your palette participating in Celebrity Serve.

Several of the restaurants will again host a silent auction to raise additional money for the Giving Hope a Hand Campaign. This year’s hottest item up for bid is dinner for two on Thursday, April 9, with the players from the Carolina Barnstorming Tour at the Holmes Center, including 2008 NCAA Men’s Basketball National Player of the Year Tyler Hansbrough, along with UNC stars Danny Greene and Bobby Frasor, and Duke University seniors Greg Paulus and David McClure, as well as several other players on the all-star squad.

“We’re really excited about the guys from the Carolina Barnstorming Tour getting involved with our community,” said Celebrity Serve Committee member and Makoto’s owner Gwen Dhing. “That’s incredible that they’re offering to do that for us since they’ll be in town already supporting the Ronald McDonald House. I think that our community should go and support their event as well.”

Each participating restaurant will have a silent auction sheet on which folks may bid.  The top bidders will most likely meet on Tuesday night at Makoto’s for a live auction at the end of Celebrity Serve. Last year’s auction raised $45,273 for Ted Mackorell Soccer Complex.

Last year’s big ticket item was an ASU-Michigan game ball signed by the entire ASU team, which sold for $10,000.

An exciting array of other goodies will be up for grabs throughout the evening including a football signed by former NFL star Hershel Walker, golf packages and gift baskets ranging in value from $1,200 to $1,700.
