Ashe County Little Theatre Presents Dinner’s at Noon April 3 to 5
Ashe County Little Theatre will present the play Dinner’s at Noon, by local author Bill Baker, Friday through Sunday, April 3 to 5. Show times are Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students.
Baker is known locally as the author of The Trial of Will Banks, a play about the first African American hung in Ashe County.
Dinner’s at Noon is a humorous, historical piece that takes place at the abandoned Healing Springs Hotel. The hotel was built in the late 1800s near a mineral spring and became known as a great spot for healing and relaxation.
The story begins when a New York banker gets lost in the mountains and ends up at the hotel. According to director Michael Yelton, this is a man who harbors many prejudices and is anxious about being stuck with all these mountain folk. Of course, the local people at the hotel are not so sure they are ready to embrace him either, Yelton points out. As the plot moves on, they learn more and more about each other and begin to work toward an understanding—perhaps even friendship.
“It’s really a play about acceptance,” said Yelton.
Vernon Taylor is the producer of Dinner’s at Noon. This will be the first production of the play.
