Getting Back at the Bank
Hayes Centers Presents Critically Acclaimed Play Man 1 Bank 0 April 4
On Saturday, April 4, TV personality Patrick Combs will bring his hilarious true story-turned-one-man play Man 1 Bank 0 to the Hayes Center in Blowing Rock. Tickets are $26 for adults and $14 for students.
As a gag, Patrick Combs deposited a junk mail check for more than $95,000, the bank deposited it, he got into a whole lot of trouble for it, lived to tell about it, and fortunately is a talented enough writer and performer to have turned his uniquely twisted tale into the funny, fascinating and fast-moving solo play, Man 1 Bank 0.
On Saturday, April 4, Man 1 Bank 0 will come to Blowing Rock’s Hayes Performing Arts Center for one night only. The show takes place at 7:30 p.m.
“Not only is Man 1 Bank 0 ninety minutes of nonstop laughter, it’s also an edge-of-your-seat adventure loaded with unbelievable real-life surprises,” raves Broadwayworld.com.
The internationally touring, award-winning, off-Broadway romp details Combs’ five-month escapade involving angry phone calls, a possible death threat, hundreds of emails (both ominous and supportive) and media coverage that included national television and worldwide press. And just in case anyone believes any part of the story to be false or fabricated, Combs’ performance includes the actual documents involved, with details provided in a slide show presentation.
Critics and audiences alike are wild about Man 1 Bank 0. Hollywood's Variety Magazine said, “This guy’s got star power.” TimeOut NY raved, “Combs has his storytelling down to an art.” “Hilarious and amazing. This is by far the best performance I saw. I can’t recommend it enough,” heralds the Orlando City Beat.
Man 1 Bank 0 has sold out performances around the world: in New York during its off-Broadway run at the Lambs Theatre; at HBO’s 2004 U.S. Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen, Colo.; its six-show run at the Spoleto Festival in Charleston, S.C.; its 10-show run in Winnipeg, Ontario, Canada, where hundreds were turned away and it garnered the Best of Fest award; the Comedy Central Stage in Los Angeles; the San Francisco Fringe where it was awarded Best Solo Comedy; in Auckland, New Zealand, where it was an official selection of the New Zealand International Comedy Festival; and in Montreal, where it won the Just For Laughs prize for Best Comedy.
Combs is a former TV personality for the television shows Real TV and Hard Copy, for which he was the star of humorous hidden camera segments. He also has appeared on many national shows, including Good Morning America and The Late Show. As a solo performer, he has toured continuously for 14 years.
