High Country Girl Scout Dessert Tasting Friday

The Girl Scout Council of the Catawba Valley Area announces the second annual High Country Girl Scout Dessert Tasting on Friday, March 27, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Appalachian Room at Chetola Resort in Blowing Rock. The fundraising event benefits Girl Scouts in the Catawba Valley region.
Cost of the event is $15 for individuals and $25 for couples. This year, the event features creations from eight local restaurants in the Boone and Blowing Rock area.
Each participant is allowed to choose from the eight varieties of Girl Scout Cookies as the base for their original dessert creations. Participating restaurants and cookies include Chetola, whose cookie selections are thin mints and peanut butter patties; Storie Street Grill, whose cookie selections are short bread and lemonade; and Gadabouts, who has chosen three feature cookies, thin mints, caramel delights and peanut butter sandwiches. Zudza’s creations highlight caramel delights and short bread; Glidewells is featuring peanut butter patties; Vidalia has chosen caramel delights; and Murphy’s in Boone will be providing dessert created with thin mints.
Dessert tasters will vote on the best dessert creation, and the awards will take place at the end of the evening. The fundraiser also includes a silent auction and a grand prize raffle.
All of the proceeds raised from the event will benefit the seven counties in the Catawba Valley Area Girl Scouts, which includes more than 5,000 registered girls. The majority of the money raised will stay in the Watauga and Ashe county areas, with more than 250 Girl Scouts. The Girl Scouts operate two summer camps locally—Girls Investigating Real Life Science (GIRLS) and Camp Cotillion.
This year’s sponsor, Chetola Resort, has donated the space, all of the serving supplies and additional contributions to help make this year’s event possible. “Chetola’s generosity will allow us to spend less and raise more to support our local Girl Scouts,” said Nancy Blair, Girl Scout membership specialist and organizer of the event. “We are very grateful for all of their help.”
