Calamai, Pelto and Treadaway Named Deans at ASU
Three college dean positions have been filled at ASU. Provost Stan Aeschleman has announced that Anthony G. “Tony” Calamai has been named dean of the College of Arts and Sciences after serving a year as interim dean. Glenda Treadaway has been named dean of the College of Fine and Applied Arts. She has served as interim dean of the college since June 2007.
William L. Pelto has been named dean of the Hayes School of Music, effective July 1. He replaces William Harbinson who is returning to teaching after serving as dean for the past nine years.
“Dr. Calamai and Dr. Treadaway are proven leaders on our campus,” Aeschleman said. “Their expertise and understanding of the university’s challenges and opportunities will promote academic excellence.”
Pelto is associate dean of Ithaca College’s School of Music, a position he has held since 2000. “Dr. Pelto’s breadth of experience prepares him to continue the Hayes School of Music tradition of excellence in the classroom and concert hall,” Aeschleman said.
Pelto has a bachelor of arts degree from Yale University, a master of arts in music theory from San Francisco State University and a Ph.D. in music theory from the University of Texas at Austin.
Calamai joined ASU as a department chair in 2000. He has a bachelor’s degree from Stockton State College, earned a master’s degree and Ph.D. in physics from N.C. State University and had a postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard University.
Treadaway was chair of the Department of Communication at ASU from June 2005 to June 2007. She holds a Ph.D. in rhetoric from Ohio University, a master of arts degree in speech communication from the University of Georgia and a bachelor of science degree from Wingate College.
