Feature Photo—Fischer Named Geography Bee Semifinalist
Nate Fischer, a sixth grader at Two Rivers Community School, has been selected as a semifinalist in the North Carolina National Geographic Geography Bee. This competition tests the participant’s knowledge in all realms of social studies, from pure geographical fact to cultural nuances and economic trends.
Bees were held in schools with fourth through eighth grade students throughout the state to determine each school’s Geography Bee winner. School-level winners then took a qualifying test that they submitted to the National Geographic Society. The top 100 scoring students were selected to take part in the statewide competition to be held in Raleigh on Friday, April 3.
One winner from each state and territory will receive $100, a National Geographic Collegiate Atlas of the World and a trip to the national competition at the National Geographic Society headquarters in Washington, D.C. May 19 to 20.
