Hayes School of Music This Week

On the free concert schedule this week at Appalachian State University’s Hayes School of Music are student voice and trombone recitals and concerts by Collegium Musicum, the Appalachian Treble Choir and the Hayes Graduate String Quartet.
Unless otherwise indicated, concerts take place in the Broyhill Music Center on the ASU campus. For more information about any of these performances, call 828-262-3020.
Student Voice Recital Thursday
Senior music performance major David Clark and junior music performance major Kate Edahl perform a joint voice recital on Thursday, April 9, at 6:00 p.m. in the Recital Hall. Admission is free.
Collegium Musicum and Appalachian Treble Choir Thursday
Collegium Musicum and the Appalachian Treble Choir will perform Thursday, April 9, at 8:00 p.m. in Rosen Concert Hall. Admission is free.
Collegium Musicum is comprised of music students who perform music of the 16th through 18th centuries. Hayes School of Music faculty member Alicia Chapman directs the ensemble.
Priscilla Porterfield, also a member of the Hayes School of Music faculty, directs the Appalachian Treble Choir.
The program includes “Entrance of the Queen of Sheba” from Handel’s Solomon, “Trio Sonata in C Major” by Bach and “Sonata VI in A Major” by Luigi Boccherini.
The Treble Choir will sing Thomas Morley’s “Love Learns by Laughing” and “Though Philomela Lost Her Love,” Thomas Weelkes’ “Aye Me, Alas, Hey Ho” and Giovanni Battista Pergolesi’s “Stabat Mater.”
Hayes Graduate String Quartet April 15
The Hayes Graduate String Quartet will perform Wednesday, April 15, at 6:00 p.m. in the Recital Hall. Admission is free.
Members of the quartet are violinists Danice Desir and Joanna Pepple, violist Joseph Driggars and cellist Rebecca Wade.
The musicians will perform Ravel’s “String Quartet in F Major,” Philip Glass’ “String Quartet No. 2” and Ralph Vaughan Williams’ “String Quartet No. 1 in G minor.”
Hayes School of Music faculty members Nancy Bargerstock and Eric Koontz coach the quartet.
Student Trombone Recital April 15
Mary Kate Bowman, a senior music education major, will present a trombone recital on Wednesday, April 15, at 8:00 p.m. in the Recital Hall. Admission is free.
