Local Author Pens and Illustrates Easter Children’s Book

High Country resident Amy Culbertson Bennett has been around animals virtually her entire life. Living on a farm until age 8, caring for animals was a way of life that she has continued through her work as a thoroughbred racehorse trainer and veterinarian assistant. Bennett and her husband Tim are owners of Celtic Unicorn Stables, an equestrian center located at the Yonahlossee Equestrian Center.
Last year, Bennett added author to her résumé with the publication of her children’s book, The Little Donkey And The Shadow Of The Cross. The book is about a little donkey that wanted to carry Jesus to the cross, but was not allowed to and how he came to forever be marked with a cross. Bennett’s miniature donkey Huckleberry, a gift from her husband, inspired the story.
“Huckleberry is my miniature donkey my husband got me for my birthday,” Bennett said on her website. “He was the inspiration for my book. I have always loved to read and have been dabbling at writing for years.”
With encouragement from Tim, Bennett finished the story and also illustrated the book using watercolors.
Bennett is currently working on her second book tentatively titled Wiggles, The Deaf Kitten. Like The Little Donkey And The Shadow Of The Cross, the story was inspired by one of her many four-legged friends.
While the book is currently available online, Bennett hopes to have copies of her book for sale at Black Bear Books and Cornerstone Christian Bookstore in the near future.
