ARTifacts Preview Party and Yard Sale in Ashe April 24 and 25
Postcards from the Edge Exhibit Begins May 6
The Ashe County Arts Council is hosting two fundraisers to benefit community and arts council related programs.
The first event is a two-fold yard sale, beginning on Friday, April 24, with a preview party from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. followed by a gigantic yard sale the next day at the Old West Jefferson Elementary School on School Avenue. The sale on Saturday, April 25, begins at 8:00 a.m. and ends at 2:00 p.m.
Postcards from the Edge is the next event consisting of a gallery exhibit featuring more than 70 works of art that will also be for sale from May 6 through May 30 in the Ashe County Arts Center.
ARTifacts Preview Party and Yard Sale
“ARTifacts is a fundraising event for us and it is an annual thing that we do,” said Rebecca Herman, program director for the Ashe County Arts Council. “The preview party and sale on Friday is for people who want to get a head start at the yard sale. It is our ‘Buy the rest before the best’ sale. On Saturday, we have our usual art sale and yard sale, and the money raised supports our school and community programs. We’ll have musicians playing traditional music Friday and we will sell refreshments. At the sale we have everything—furniture, Christmas items, sporting equipment, books, paintings, knick-knacks, household goods, clothing—tons of things.”
Donated items are being accepted for the sale on Wednesday, April 22, Thursday, April 23 and Friday, April 24, from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. each day in the gymnasium at the Old West Jefferson Elementary School.
Postcards from the Edge Exhibit
Next Month, The Ashe Arts Center, home to The Gallery and Gallery Shop located at 303 School Avenue, will be filled with works of art that are the size of postcards.
“Postcards from the Edge will be up and running by May 6,” said Herman. “The exhibit is actually a traveling exhibit that seven area arts councils in the region participate in. Artists from each county donate their postcard sized, framed pieces; when they are sold, the shared profits will go towards support for regional projects, with half of the money supporting local arts councils. We have 20 artists from Ashe County donating their work.”
Contributing Ashe artists include Herman, as well as Catherine Altice, Joanie Bell, Garrett Briggs, Linda Bruce, Theresa Curd, Linda Harms, Marsha Holmes, Sharon Kasel, Luther Krider, Pat Morrison, Ed Perzel, Scot Pope, Clayton Proctor, Robert Ray, Cheryl Roberts, Stephen Shoemaker, Nancy Shoemaker, Lyn Soeder, Carlton Trainum, Susan Van Wyk, Janet Warner and Loretta Weaver.
“The works are for sale at a uniform price of $70 each,” said Herman. “We’re holding an opening reception for the exhibit and sale at the art center on Thursday, May 7, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., and everyone is invited to come and see the artwork.”
Admission to the preview party and sale is $3, with free admission to the Saturday yard sale and Postcards from the Edge Exhibit.
