Earth Month Continues at ASU April 20 to 23
The festivities continue at ASU as students and faculty are determined to show that a celebration of the Earth cannot be held in only one day. Next week, on three different dates, April 20, 22 and 23, the ASU Sustainable Energy Society (ASUSES), the organization responsible for hosting the Earth Month events, will present six separate activities.
On Monday, April 20, in the Attic Ballroom in Plemmons Student Union, ASUSES will present a discussion titled Current Trends in Green Building and Energy Efficiency from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. Food will be provided.
Directly after this presentation, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. in Room 114 of the Belk Library, two different presenters will discuss sustainable energy resources. Al Bentz will talk about the use of hydrogen fuel and ASU Biology Professor Dr. Terry Carroll will present information on passive solar energy.
On Wednesday, April 22, ASUSES will host a special Earth Day celebration from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Sanford Mall. Face painting, live music and various community booths will be featured at the event. Food will also be provided.
That evening, following the day’s festivities, Leonardo DiCaprio’s documentary The 11th Hour will be shown at 7:00 p.m. at I.G. Greer Theater. The movie discusses the problem of global warming and gives viewers advice on what they can do to help. A panel discussion will follow.
On Thursday, April 23, a fun and informational event called Green Grooves will be held at the Dragonfly Theater and Pub beginning at 8:00 p.m. This event will feature a short video on campus sustainability activities followed by a presentation from guest speaker Ned Ryan Doyle. Following this presentation there will be live music by Wilmington hip-hop group Fuzz and Mac and Rhythm’s Children. The music begins at 10:00 p.m.
Also on April 23, there will be a discussion on sustainable development in different areas of the local community at 7:00 p.m. in Room 114 of the Belk Library. David Jonston will lead the discussion.
