High Country Stimulus Summit April 24

MountainKeepers will present a High Country Stimulus Summit on Friday, April 24, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the High Country Home Builders Association, located at 755 N.C. Highway 105 Bypass in Boone.
“The intent of the gathering is to facilitate smart planning at the grassroots level for economic development—particularly as it pertains to energy and the environment—as a way to optimize the opportunities for our region presented by the availability of federal stimulus funds,” the MountainKeepers website states.
The summit will include a group of about 60 business owners, nonprofit leaders, innovators and public officials to learn the latest information about the federal economic stimulus program and its timing and delivery mechanisms, make new contacts and create together a “map” of planned actions and applications.
Confirmed speakers include state Sen. Steve Goss and Rep. Cullie Tarleton, who will provide updates from Raleigh; Mike Arriola, the Small Business Administration representative for Western North Carolina; Betty Huskins of Advantage West; Jim Deal, Watauga County Board of Commissioners chair; and Boone Mayor Loretta Clawson.
MountainKeepers is an organization that works to strengthen efforts across the High Country to advance the sustainability of the natural resources, economy and special character of the region and thereby enhance the quality of life for all its citizens.
The registration fee for the summit is $5 to cover the cost of light refreshments. For more information or a registration form, click to www.MountainKeepers.org or call 828-268-0637.
