Inaugural Rock 2 Raise Benefit Concert Takes Over Fairgrounds April 25
Proceeds to Benefit Alzheimer’s Association
Charlotte quartet Simplified will be one of nine bands participating in the inaugural Rock 2 Raise benefit concert at the High Country Fairgrounds on Saturday, April 25. Proceeds from the concert will benefit the Alzheimer’s Association. On Saturday, April 25, nine local and regional rock bands will converge on the High Country Fairgrounds in Boone for the inaugural Rock 2 Raise—a benefit concert to raise money for the local chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. The event will kick off at 11:00 a.m. and end at 10:00 p.m.
Bands slated to appear at Rock 2 Raise include award-winning Charlotte rockers Simplified, Split Rail Records recording artists Do It To Julia, Farewell, Vice on Victory, And Then There Were None, The Arrival, Company Cowboy, House of Fools and the Michael Alvarado Band.
Rock 2 Raise is being organized by the ASU chapter of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. The event is the brainchild of recent ASU graduate Kurt Boughman, whose grandmother suffers from Alzheimer’s.
“I just kept thinking, ‘There’s got to be a way for us to reach out as an organization to the community and do something meaningful,” said Boughman.
All proceeds generated from this event will go to the Alzheimer’s Association to fund research and raise awareness for Alzheimer’s disease.
Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive and fatal brain disease that currently affects as many as 5 million Americans. Typically prevalent in older generations, the disease destroys brain cells, causing problems with memory, thinking and behavior. According to the Alzheimer’s Association, the disease is the sixth-leading cause of death in the United States. There is no cure for Alzheimer’s and limited treatment for its symptoms.
There are urgent and increasing efforts worldwide to curb the devastating effects of this debilitating disease.
Attendees are allowed to set up party tents during the event for a fee of $60 per spot. However, if 40 or more attendees register under the same group name, tent spots are free of charge. Email therock2raise@gmail.com to register for tent spots.
Concertgoers are allowed to bring their own beer to the event. There is a one case (24 twelve-ounce bottles or cans) limit per person. Those planning to bring alcohol are asked to drink responsibly and find a designated driver.
Tickets for Rock 2 Raise are $10 in advance and $15 at the gate. Purchase advance tickets at ASU’s Plemmons Student Union.
