7th Annual Midnight at the OASIS May 2

On Saturday, May 2, dance the night away at the largest fundraising event of the year for OASIS, an organization dedicated to ending domestic violence and sexual assault in Watauga County. The event, called Midnight at the OASIS, takes place at the Meadowbrook Inn in Blowing Rock from 7:00 to 11:00 p.m.
Asheville band Laditude will return again this year to perform a variety of music hits, including Top 40, Motown, beach, rock, soul and jazz. The band features Ken and Amy LaDeroute, world-renowned drummer River Guerguerian, keyboardist Aaron Price and Klee Liles on bass.
“They’re great performers,” said Rebecca Gummere, associate director of OASIS.
Attendees will be treated to heavy hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar, and abuse survivors, volunteers and community partners will share their stories. In addition, belly dancing troupe Lost Jewels of the Ghawazee will perform and lead free belly dancing lessons every hour in a separate room.
Last year, the event sold out of its allotment of 260 tickets and raised $12,000 for OASIS’s women’s shelter operations, Gummere said.
Some people prefer to dress up while others show up wearing jeans, she said.
“We really encourage people to get their ‘Midnight’ on,” Gummere said. “We like to have like-minded people in the same room working together to end the cycle of violence in our community.”
OASIS is celebrating 31 years of service and partnerships in the community to support victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. In 2008, OASIS provided support services for 263 clients and 168 children, a 20 percent increase from the prior year.
Tickets to Midnight at the OASIS are $30 and are available by calling 828-264-1532 or by clicking to www.OasisInc.org. Businesses can sign up to be corporate sponsors and receive complimentary tickets for a minimum of $250.
