Kilowatt Ours Showing at Green Mother Goods For Arbor Day Friday
The Elkland Art Center will host a puppet building project starting at 4:00 p.m. at Green Mother Goods on Friday, April 24.
This Friday, April 24, is National Arbor Day and Green Mother Goods celebrates with a showing of Jeff Barrie’s, Kilowatt Ours: A Plan to Re-Energize America and a puppet-making workshop hosted by Elkland Arts Center.
Kilowatt Ours: A Plan to Re-Energize America
Green Mother Goods shows a short version of the documentary—lasting only 35 minutes—beginning at 5:30 p.m. The full-length version, which last 55 minutes, will be shown beginning at 7:00 p.m. Both showings will be held at Green Mother Goods on King Street across from Dan’l Boone Inn.
The documentary helps ordinary citizens to understand proactive measures in saving energy on a global and local scale. The techniques highlighted in the documentary are meant for entire communities to use as elixirs to less expensive, and more conservative lifestyles. The energy saved using the types of methods show in this film have saved the consumption of 4,752,081 pounds of coal to date.
“Most viewers are shocked at the scope of the issue and even more so at the immediacy and simplicity of the solution—energy savings as an energy source.” said Jeff Barrie, the director/creator of the film.
Small changes to ones habits in the purchasing of products and consumption of energy can fuel savings. One way of changing both practices at once is as simple as using compact fluorescent bulbs instead of incandescent bulbs. Such a simple change to the ambiance of a living room, or kitchen, saves hundreds of dollars over a year time in the average household.
This film gives simple energy saving techniques for homes, businesses and schools to utilize and significantly lower their energy bills.

Elkland Art Center Puppet-Making Workshop
Elkland Art Center uses recycled material to make lifelike puppets. With distinctively abstract features, the puppets come alive and perform in front of audiences ranging all ages. Their message is simple: creativity inspires the world through community efforts.
Creativity expressed from within the community, forms the community itself. Elkland Art Center hopes to help each community grow and come alive with color by showing others the fun had in making things together.
The Elkland Art Center will host a puppet building project starting at 4:00 p.m. at Green Mother Goods on Friday, April 24. The puppets will be made from recycled materials to celebrate Arbor Day.
Children will be assisted in making puppets of tree dwelling animals such as squirrels and birds. Once the puppets are complete the children will have a chance to play with them in a life-sized tree, which doubles as a puppet stage.
Elkland takes its fun seriously, and on Arbor Day this gypsy-style puppet caravan and traveling puppet show, will amaze participants both physically and intellectually.
