Feature Photo: Local Students Compete in Battle of the Book Competition
The annual Watauga County Battle of the Book Competition took place on April 3 at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church and featured 12 teams from the region. A team from Valle Crucis Elementary School won the competition with 225 points; the second runner up was Mabel Elementary with 209 points. The winning team from Valle Crucis Elementary School includes (front row, from left to right) Emma Carder and Tory Jensen, and (bottom row, from left to right) Olivia Handley, Cami Hastings, Brody O’Neal, Nate Estus and Finley Collins.
