Fire On The Rock Chef’s Competition Has Two Winners
(Pictured left) Dominic Geraghty of Hound Ears and (right) Chef Bill Green of ArtisinalAfter the pans cooled, the flour settled and the judges’ forks rested upon their empty plates, the crowd assembled at Blowing Rock’s Hayes Performing Arts Center waited with baited breathe to learn who would be the 2009 Fire On The Rock champion. However, the competition, which took place during the Blue Ridge Wine & Food Festival on Sunday, April 19, had a most unusual conclusion: a tie.
After advancing through Saturday’s semifinal round, Chef Dominic Geraghty of Hound Ears and Chef Bill Green of Artisinal both worked their culinary magic with Carolina blue crab, the final round’s secret ingredient. After tallying their scores, the judges announced to the audiences that both Geraghty and Green had amassed 255 total points.
According to competition co-organizer Jimmy Crippen, there were no provisions in place to settle a tie; therefore each chef will have a share of the bragging rights. Crippen insisted that organizers would make sure that next year’s competition would only have one winner.
